Eaglestar leaped on to the Stream rock. She was now older and thinking of retiring. Nevertheless, she had to do this. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath the Streamrock for a Clan meeting!" The cats all gathered and Hawkpaw followed Silverpaw forward. "StarClan, these two apprentices have understood the warrior code and trained well and I commend them to you as warriors in return. Silverpaw and Hawkpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and defend your Clan even at the cost of your life?" They replied "I do!" "Then let you have your warrior names." Thinking of Hawkstar, she said. "Hawkpaw, you will now be known as Hawkpath. StarClan honors your bravery and courage. Silverpaw, you will now be known as Silverclaw. StarClan honors your loyalty and stubborness. I also have an announcement. "Hawkpath, you are not a warrior. You are the cat Hawkstar who was leader and my mother. You are her incarnation." Everyone gasped....

"Lastly, I am retiring. Spanglefur is the new leader and I trust he will serve well." meowed the RiverClan leader. She sighed and padded to the elders den.

Mythpaw stood silently, her eyes wide in shock. Eaglestar was still no more than 24 moons old, which was very young for any cat. She bowed her head, respecting the former leader as she slipped past.

Eaglestar sighed. "I shall now have one life and be known as Eaglestripe yet again." she meowed quietly, lying down.

Hawkpath blinked in shock for both herself and her mentor. "Um...." she mumbled. She padded over to Eaglestripe. "Eaglesta-ripe, thank you. I-um...my mind is kind of clouded. I don't really understand."
Spanglefur looked around anxiously. He was leader? Well, that was certainly strange. "What the randomness?" he muttered. There were a lot of reasons he could think of... 1. First of all, a blind cat should not be leader. 2. He was the brother of Eaglestripe, younger, but still her brother all the same. 3. Eaglestripe was barely 24 moons old, and didn't seem young enough to retire. 4. Hawkstar was alive in the Clan, and after Eaglestripe, she should be the rightful leader.
Feeling very awkward, he padded up to the Stream Rock. This was even weirder because Eaglestripe was watching...him. "Um....I guess you are all wondering three things, which I am also wondering: Why is a blind cat leader, why did Eaglestar retire, and why is Hawkpath Hawkstar? Well, I can't answer any of those, but I will try to be the best leader I can be. I will be traveling to the Moonpool at sunhigh tomorrow." Spanglefur dipped his head, feeling glares, grins, and stares burn his pelt. Another reason shocked him.
5. He had a been partly responsible for his mother's death. He had killed her and if he hadn't, maybe she would still have one life left. Eaglestripe wouldn't be retiring, and a blind cat wouldn't be leader.
Spanglefur sighed and padded into the leader's den, the smells of Eaglestripe were still there, obviously, but he could smell another scent. Hawkstar! But why was it so fresh.... Whipping around, he came face to face with his mother, the warrior re-incarnated.
"Spanglefur, I was-er-hoping that, after you receive your lives, you could give me some answers. I don't really know...how I can be your mother, Eaglest-ripe's, and be so young. I can't remember it. I'm not-not a-um-a ghost, am I??"
Spanglefur screwed up his face for an instant, thinking hrd. "I don't know yet, Hawkpath. I could try, but I'm not completely sure I can be that powerful. After all, I'm blind."
"Don't worry." Hawkpath mewed.
"I guess so." Spanglefur huffed sadly, then put his head down on his paws. An image came into his blank eyes, and they grew black. He had never seen his mother before, but he knew it was her. Muscular, lean, and silver tortoiseshell, with those hazel eyes. And she was standing next to a cat he never knew--Wildpath. He blinked and his eyes grew normal and the world grew black again. He had seen his mother while in StarClan. Spanglefur sniffed, and he could tell that Hawkpath had gone.

"You will be a great leader, Spanglefur. And Hawkpath, let me tell you a story my mother told me." Eaglestripe meowed. "When Hawkstar was younger, she grew up with a handsome and loyal tom named Wildpath. He was given 'path' as a name, the same as Hawkstar's warrior name. She became leader and bore his kits. One day, they were walking when a tree almost fell on her. He pushed her out of the way and it killed him. A moon later, a ginger tom named Flamefur-my father- came. He was of ThunderClan blood but became her mate. They had many litters, including me and Spanglefur and Sunhawk. After she died, Flamefur eventually left the Clan. He took another mate, the ThunderClan leader Midnightstar, and she has bore his kits." Eaglestripe saw the shock and pang of jealousy on Hawkpath's face. "Maybe you're replaying life. Beware a tom you love a lot." Silverclaw turned his blind head uneasily at her. No!

Silverclaw gulped and turned his head. "Goodbye." he muttered, breaking in to a run and sprinting out on to the straight moors.

"Silverclaw? Silverclaw?" Hawkpath woke an hour later alone. "WHERE ARE YOU!" she set out at a burning pace following his scent and let out a piercing caterwaul.

Silverclaw heard the cries of Hawkpath and soon reconized that he needed her, even if it would cost his life for her. He turned and followed her cries until they soon were face to face in a clearing.

Ivykiy crept into a bush at the side of the clearing, her eyes wide as she spotted the cats. Uh oh! She thought silently. She tilted her ears forward, figuring while she was in the bush already, she might just stop and listen for a bit.....
Enchantedkit shoved her way into the bush. "What are you doing here, Mousebrain?" She hissed quietly, after following the younger kits scent. "I-"
Mythpaw came racing through the brush as a vole sped by the clearing. Scrabbling and pulling up, she gazed uneasily up at the warriors. "Whoops," she meowed, slowly stepping back.

Russetkit wrinkled her nose from the gorse as she saw them staring at each other. Suddenly a long white shape protruded from the brush behind her. "Fallenkit!" "Sorry!" growled the white tom, lowering his tail. "I forgot to keep it low."

Enchantedkit suddenly stood up. "Wait a minute," she said, sniffing the air. "This is ThunderClan territory!"
"Hi guys!" Mythpaw meowed excitedly to her siblings, seeing her sister and brother. "Oops, I guess I chased the prey too far. I've gotta get going, but I'll see you at the gathering!' She mewed quickly, not to eager to get into trouble from crossing the border.
Snowpaw followed the scents of the four missing kits. She shook her head as she hit her head against a stone. "Ow," she grumbled, lifting her gaze. "I found you!" She said excitedly. Her voice soon became hard as she recongnized the RiverClan cats across the border. "What are you doing on ThunderClan territory?" She said firmly, padding forwards, making no attempt to fight. Only if nescessary would she battle.
