Midnightstar pushed soundlessly through the dense, prickly undergrowth, her gaze fixed on a hunched brown mouse nibbling on a tiny brown grass seed. "See that?" she asked quietly to the apprentice. When she nodded, Midnightstar continued. "Watch me, and when its your turn, remember what I did and try it." She crept forward, her haunches slowly moving across the soft ground, her tail streaming out behind her. She leapt, her powerful hindquarters pushing off, sending a spray of dust behind her. With thorn sharp claws outstreched, she landed perfectly on the mouse and flung it into the air, tearing its flesh with her claws as she batted it. It fell to the ground limp, and she raked dirt over the prey proudly. "Now, try to do the same," she said smiling.

(Brindlepaw Character) Brindlepaw stared in amazement at what her mentor had done. She looked around for any signs of prey.it took Brindlepaw awhile before she found a mouse scuffling in and among the undergrowth. She quickly and quietly padded up to it and when she was a few mouse-lengths away she lunged out at it. The mouse had sensed her coming so it darted away into the undergrowth and into its burrow. Brindlepaw landed on bare ground. "Rats," she spat to herself, as she came padding back up to Midnightstar with her tail dragging on the ground.

Midnightstar smiled warmly at Brindlepaw as she padded up. "Brindlepaw, you leapt was great, but you forgot the crouch!" Midnightstars warm gaze looked down at the apprentice. She laughed kindly. "Before we practice the crouch, I want you to tell me what the difference is between stalking a mouse and a rabbit. Just try your best."

(brindlepaw character) "Ok Midnightstar!," meowed Brindlepaw happily. The young she-cat thought for a moment so then she could remember what her mother had told her. "Hmm... Oh yeah! When you are stalking a mouse you want to be light on your paws because if your not the mouse can sense you coming," Brindlepaw paused for a moment before continuing," And when you are stalking a rabbit you want to be light and quick on your paws because rabbits are really fast. You also want to be down-wind? or is it up-wind? I forget." The young apprentice sat down on the ground and awaited for what her mentor would say.

Midnightstar smiled. "Very close! When your stalking a mouse, yes, you have to be light on your paws because they can feel the vibration on the earth. For the rabbit, they can hear you coming, so you have to make sure that you crouch low and are down-wind."

(brindlepaw character) The young apprentices eyes gleamed at her mentors praise. When the young cat lifter her nose to the wind she caught a strong scent of shrew on the wind so Brindlepaw carefully padded forward and dropped into the hunters crouch instinctively. When she was a fow-lenghth away she leapt and caught the struggling thing in her claws. She bit it on the neck and saying thanks to Starclan she padded over to Midnightstar with the limp creature hanging from her jaws.

"Wonderful job Brindlepaw! You have a leap like Skyclan," she praised, her eyes glimmering with pride.
