Hawkstar sreeched in pain. This birth certainly wasn't going as smoothly as her other five births. She shook her head back and forth. Suddenly five bundles appeared at her side. Hawksatr gazed at them, gasping at how beautiful they were. She gave her deputy a kind look. She was suckling Hawkstar's first grandkits. Hawkstar turned back to her own kits. There were three toms, and two she-cats. Hawkstar was so proud. She nudged the first one, saying to no one in particular, "Brindlekit." He was a tortoiseshell tom. She gazed at the second, a hefty golden she-cat. "Butterkit." The third was a black tom. "Jetkit." The fourth was a fiery tom with two white paws. "Spanglekit." Hawkstar nuzzled the last, a gray tabby she-cat. "Seakit." Hawkstar smiled weakly. "Flamefur!" She called. She showed him the kits and their names. Nuzzling Spanglekit and Seakit, who were the runts, Hawkstar could see something underneath those closed, content eyes. She gasped. They were blind!
