Sunsetpaw padded up into the clearing with Snowfire, holding the fish she caught in her jaws. She walked over to the freshkill pile, and dropped the fish there. She quickly found her mother, Redstripe, and padded over to her. "I and Snowfire have something to tell you." Sunsetpaw said uneasily.
Redstripe noticed her daughter's unease. She had a feeling what she and Snowfire wanted to tell her.

"We're going to be mates!" Snowfire burst happily. He waited to see what the pretty deputy thought.

Sunsetpaw replied quickly. "Well, when I become a warrior, of course." She shrank under her mother's gaze.
Redstripe gazed at both of them. Then she gave a small smile. "I thought so." She finally said. "I was the same with Sunhawk. He was an apprentice; I was a young warrior. Eaglestripe, though, well..." Redstripe drifted off for a moment. "Let's just say that she reacted to it. Anyways, I feel happy for you. Just be careful who you tell." She looked a bit hard at Snowfire. "Just don't turn out like-" She stopped. She must not let him know who his father was. "Like a bad cat." She settled with that response.

"Nothing, nothing at all." Redstripe lied, then gave a false smile. Snowfire must not be allowed to know who his father was.

Snowfire sensed tension in her. "I know you're hiding something!" he hissed, turning and bounding away.

"Snowfire!" Sunsetpaw called after the warrior as he ran off. She turned to face her mother. "Why are you lying to him?" She said angrily to her mother. She turned to stomp off after Snowfire.
Redstripe growled to herself in annoyance. She didn't want to lie; she just had to! She was afraid of how Snowfire would react if she told him about his father. She sat down, feeling exhausted and not that good.

Flamefur padded in to the clearing where Redstripe was frowning as Sunsetpaw ran off. "What's going on?" he asked. Eaglestripe padded after him. "Good point... there's something wrong happening."
