"Intuders!" Flounderpaw yowled. Instantly the cat were all up out of their dens and racing toward Hawkstar.

Stormflower leapt to her feet, seeing her kit in front of the dangerous RiverClan cat. Stormflower burst forward, bowling into Hawkstar. Unsheathing her claws, she dug into the side of the leaders throat. Hissing, she leapt off and grabbed Flounderpaw by the scruff and ran him inside the nursery.

Hawkstar felt pain and fell to the ground, her blood mixing with the dust.
A golden and dark brown she-cat with green eyes stepped forward. "Mother!" Hawkstar yowled. It was Rosetwin! Rosetwin licked Hawkstar on the cheek. "My dear kit, it won't be long now..." Hawkstar nodded. "I must get back to the battle!"
Hawkstar threw up her head. She growled and her eyes flashed.

Brushfire leaped into the air and came down squarely on Hawkstar's shoulders. The cat yowled in pain and swiped at him, but Brushfire sank his needle-sharp teeth into her throat. Suddenly the body went limp.

Hawkstar yowled in pain. "May we meet again in StarClan, Midnightstar! Forgive your warriors for me!" As Hawkstar went limp, she meowed again softly, "Wildpath." Suddenly a jerk of air blew in Hawkstar's face and the ground slipped from her paws. A feeling of weightlessness came over her and she lifted her face to the sky. Then all went black. A whoosh! flew past her and she awoke.
Hawkstar tilted her head. "Wildpath!" Hawkstar's heart lifted. "I've come to take you to StarClan." the tom meowed. Hawkstar looked down. "I didn't get to say good-bye to Flamefur." her mew cracked with regret. Wildpath nodded. "You can visit him though." Hawkstar's ears twitched and she padded up into the sky with her old mate, his whiskers brushing hers.

Hearing all the comotion, Midnightstar raced from her den and leapt right off the edge of the highledge. She landed with a small thump and whirled around. The image she saw in the clearing made her knees wobble and her eyes role white. Her mind reeled and she took a small step forward, and began racing toward the limp cat. The ThunderClan Leader fell to her knees as she reached Hawkstar. Her yowl echoed the clearing as the moon beat down onto the cats.
"Why StarClan, why?!" She pressed her black muzzle into Hawkstar's fur and slowly pulled herself to her paws. As she lifted her head, she gazed toward the stars.
"Though she may be from a different clan, treat her well and with respect." Midnightstar bowed her head whispered in Hawkstar's ear, "May StarClan always honor you. You were a great cat, and you always will be." When Midnightstar lifted her head her eyes show blank emotion. Midnightstar slipped underneath Hawkstar and stood with the cat resting on her back. Not saying a word, she walked out the thorn entrance and into the night toward RiverClan territory.
