Midnightstar lead her two apprentices out toward the moorland, lifting her head to the breeze. Gazing out in the distance toward RiverClan territory she sighed, looking back toward the earth.
"Lets hurry now," she meowed kindly too the two apprentices trailing behind. Before long they reached the border, bounding energetically after rabbits. She let Rainpaw and Brindlepaw a bit and she gazed into the distance. She turned away and stood watching the two apprentice race after rabbits. her eyes sparkled and she purred with amusement.

Flamefur, Cloudpaw, and Eaglestripe ran side by side to the moor for a hunting trip. Flamefur sat down and wrapped his tail around his paws as Cloudpaw pounced after a young rabbit. He turned and stared at Flamefur. "How do I catch these things?" he meowed with frusteration.
Eaglestripe chuckled and replied. "Very carefullly.... learn yourself!"
Flamefur twitched his nose and turned to stare at the distant hills. Midnightstar and her patrol were there. "Midnightstar!" he yowled when Cloudpaw and Eaglestripe were out of earshot.

Midnightstar turned, her heart thumping as she noticed Flamefur calling her name. She took a quick glance toward Rainpaw and Brindlepaw racing after rabbits, who were out of earshot. She twitched her ears and padded toward the tom.

Flamefur padded towards Midnightstar. "Hawkstar's... dead." he meowed unsurely.
He closed his eyes and opened them slowly, looking at her and wondering what to do.

Midnightstar felt a twinge.
"I know...." she meowed quietly, gazing at Flamefur sympathetically. She didn't know what to say; it felt as though her mind was blank, no matter how hard she searched for words. Her emerald eyes gleamed with unsureness.

Static burned in the stars of Hawkstar's pelt from above. She tried to smile, but her head was too heavy.
Wildpath walked over to Hawkstar. "What's wrong?" he asked.

Flamefur wasn't sure what else to say. He knew Hawkstar was keeping a secret from him. She was most likely flirting with Wildpath right now. He hadn't seen her since she apprenticed Burningkit and Arrowkit a few moons ago.

Hawkstar looked up, her eyes clouded. "Nothing." she croaked.
Wildpath nuzzled her. "I know something's up."
Hawkstar backed away. "No, no!" she yowled, racing away to be alone but still watching the scene below.

She had no idea what to do. Gingerfeather was never in camp anymore, and she was lonely. Stormflower and Mapleclaw still didn't even have any idea who their father was. "Midnightstar, can we be mates again?" Flamefur blurted, his eyes closing as he sighed. He remembered growing up with her. "Hawkstar's dead, and I know she'd want me to be happy." he meowed.

Wildpath frantically searched for his mate. "Hawkstar?"
Hawkstar curled her lip and a coldness zapped through her.

ApplePaw was hiding in a bush near by where he heard the conversation. MIDNIGHTSTAR being FLAMEFURS mate!!?? How could she do that, wasnt it against the warrior code. A bug flew up his nose and he let out a loud achoooo!

Midnightstar felt a jolt pulse through her, rushing through her limbs, replenishing happyness and joy. Her smile spread her entire face as she mewed, "Flamefur I would love to be your mate again." She pressed her muzzle into his flame colored fur, closing her eyes. She suddenly lifted her head, hearing a sneeze. She sighed and raised an eye brow at Applepaw, indicated he needed to explain.

"A long time ago, Flamefur and I were mates, and we were best friends when he lived in ThunderClan," she explained. "Now don't go spreading this around. It's not something everyone needs to know if they haven't already learned it. Now go see Stormflower, she might have some training for you." She flicked her tail to Applepaw, turning back to Flamefur. |
