Sunhawk stopped. He saw a pretty cat. "H-Hello." he stammered.
The gray she-cat snarled. "Get out of my territory!" she hissed, lunging at him.
"Hey, I'm just passing through." he said, squinting to see her better. She was gorgeous.
"Can you see, cat?" she asked, giving him a curious look.
"Well, I crashed into something a while ago...it half blinded me."
"Too bad. I wanted to see you fight." the cat replied.
"Oh yeah?" Sunhawk's claws slid out. "I'm a warrior. I can still fight."
"Warrior?" she snorted. "What's that, a loner? A Bald-pelt pet?"
"For your in-for-ma-tion, warriors are the toughest cats out there." Sunhawk informed her proudly.
"I doubt that. A blind cat the toughest? Get a life." the cat meowed rudely.
"Grr-arrgh!" Sunhawk hissed, leaping at her. He slashed at her throat, then held her down, tearing at her belly fur. She struggled, then stopped. He held a long, sharp silver claw above her throat, ready to strike if she moved.
"Let me up, runt!" she protested.
"Not if you call me that." Sunhawk meowed firmly.
"Okay. Fine." The she-cat mewed. As she tried to get up, Sunhawk stiffened, his claw catching onto her fur.
"Promise? he asked warily.
"Sure. Whatever." she meowed, trying to push his claw away.
But Sunhawk held it firm. "You don't mean that."
"Sure I do." she said.
The tabby tom's eyes narrowed. "Fine. What's your name?"
"Misty." she replied, friendlier. "What's yours?"
"Sunhawk."
"Sunhawk?" she bawled. "What kind of name is that?"
"My name. Gotta problem with it?"
The she-cat, surprised by Sunhawk's meanness, looked nervous. "I guess not." she mumbled.
"Warriors have names like that. I'm Sunhawk, my father is Flamefur. Apprentices, who are warriors in training, have 'paw' at the end of their names. I was Sunpaw. Kits have 'kits' at the end of their names. Like Eaglekit and Sunkit. And leaders have 'star.' My mother was Hawkstar. My sister is now Eaglestar."
"Interesting." Misty murmured.
"Wanna hear more?" Sunhawk asked eagerly. He loved telling tales of his home.
"I guess," Misty replied.
"Well, there are four Clans. Five, actually. No, wait, six, counting StarClan. Well, there's ThunderClan, who are fierce and brave. They can be hostile to intruders but take in too many cats. Their leader Midnightstar is gentle and sweet, but in battle she's pretty tough.
"Then there's ShadowClan. They're wily and proud. They can be mean and launch attacks and stuff for no reason. They think that they own the forest. Well, they don't. THeir leader is Birchstar.
"WindClan was evicted. They were swift and loyal, the fastest cats in the forest. They lived on the moor, but they were evicted due to lack of cats.
"RiverClan is my Clan. We are gentle, clever, strong, and courageous all in one. We love water and love to swim. No cat dare enter our camp, as it's on an island. Eaglestar, my sister, is the current leader.
"SkyClan, the fifth Clan, used to live in the Clans' old territory, long before the Great Journey to the lake home, many moons before I was born. They were expelled because there was no place for them to live. They left and came to live...well, actually, somewhere around here. But they were forgotten. They disbanded as time went by, too.
"Moons later, a cat of ThunderClan named Firestar, and his mate Sandstorm, came to this place to rescue them and make them a Clan again. I think they still live around here. Firestar died before my lifetime, but not my mother's. But he didn't go back, so we don't know what happened to them.
"StarClan is the Clan of the stars, the spirits of our warrior ancestors looking down on us. They send prophecies to our medicine cat to help keep us safe. They take care of us. Whenever a cat dies, they go to StarClan. StarClan also gives Clan leaders nine lives, as a symbol of their courage and hope for the cat, and for him or her to fulfill their destiny. That is why the leaders take the name 'star.'
"All of the Clans are truly wonderful, and a great place to live. I loved my life there, but I wasn't too sad to leave."
"That sounds wonderful." Misty meowed to the blind tom. "But why did you leave?"
Sunhawk sighed. "Well, my mother had died a few moons before. My mate and most beloved leader, Redstar, just died. My father, Flamefur, left to join ThunderClan to be with his first mate, the cat whom he always loved. And I was blind. Well, half blind. I was lonely, and scared. So I've decided to move on. I'm thinking of taking on just the name of Sun or Hawk. Unless I ever go back..."
Misty tilted her head. "Where are you off to now?"
"I might visit SkyClan." Sunhawk mewed. "They say my mother had a lot of SkyClan blood, and I have to haunches for it."
"So you might join?" Misty asked curiously.
"No. But after that, I don't know where to go. Might as well just drop dead."
"Don't say that." Misty mewed quietly."
"Why?" Sunhawk snapped. "I don't have a mother, a father, a mate, a home, and I'm lost and lonely, and I'm blind for StarClan's sake!" he finished with a despairing caterwaul. "I'm sorry." he said quietly. " I didn't mean to yell."
"That's okay." Misty mewed. "Do you mind if ?I come to SkyClan with you?"
"You're welcome to, if that's what you mean."
"Thank you, Sunhawk."
"I'm leaving now."
"Fine by me!" Misty mewed cheerfully.
And so the two cats padded side by side, traveling to SkyClan.
The gray she-cat snarled. "Get out of my territory!" she hissed, lunging at him.
