Sunhawk chatted with Misty quietly as they entered the camp and found it deserted. "Oh, no." he meowed.
Suddenly yowling could be heard over the rise. A tortoiseshell she-cat, older than Sunhawk by a lot probably, charged through the camp. "Rockclaw!" she called. Another cat came into view.
"What is it, Cherrystar?"
"Intruders!" the she-cat hissed.
"No, no." Sunhawk meowed. "I'm Sunhawk, from RiverClan, and this is Misty, a loner. I left RiverClan and we're just passing through."
Cherrystar smiled. "Tell me. How are Firestar and Sandstorm?"
"Well, they died." Sunhawk mewed uneasily.
"That's sad news. But you are welcome here, for a while anyway."
"Thank you." Misty dipped her head. "We probably won't stay for more than three moons."
Cherrystar nodded. "However long you like, just not more than twelve moons unless you join. You may, though."
Sunhawk smiled. "Thank you for the offer, but I wouldn't dream of it. I might still go back to RiverClan."
But Misty looked interested. "Thank you." she meowed. "Sunhawk, would you like to hunt with me?" Seeing the tabby nod, she turned to Cherrystar. "We'll hunt outside the borders."
Cherrystar nodded. "Fine by me."
When they hunted, they talked some more. Sunhawk got an ominous feeling-no doubt that he was in love.
Misty had the same feeling.
On the way back to camp, Sunhawk looked at Misty. "Misty, will you be my mate?"
Misty looked startled, but she smiled. "Of course," she mewed, licking Sunhawk between the ears.
Back at camp, Sunhawk gave Cherrystar a thrush and three mice for good hospitality, and Misty gave the Clan some extra fresh-kill.
Sunhawk settled down for the night outside the camp, with Misty at his side. He sighed and closed his eyes, sleep overcoming him.
