Personality:
Canyonmist is a rather serious cat, especially when it comes to warrior and apprentice duties that must be fulfilled. He often takes it on himself to scold apprentices who fail to do their duties, regardless of if he's mentoring them or not. It often seams that he dislikes apprentices as he's very critical of them, but that's not necessarily the case. He does like most apprentices, most of the time, expect for the arrogant ones who forget about their duties. Those are the only ones he dislikes. Despite his serious nature, Canyonmist can be lighthearted and silly though not very often.
Canyonmist is also completely devoted to his clan and will go to any lengths to protect it. He does hold a strong dislikes for the other clans, and is sure to voice his opinion if he disagrees on things. He's also one to stick to the warrior code, though he does believe that it can be interpreted to mean several things and that StarClan would allow it. Despite this, he is completely against nonclan born cats, believing that they could never be as great as clanborn cats are. He believes that tradition, such as clan ceremonies and having Gatherings be a peaceful time, is important and that nonclan cats is a breach to that tradition.
Canyonmist also greatly respects his leader, deputy and medicine cat. He often offers his assistance to the medicine cat whenever all of his duties are fulfilled believing that he should do whatever he can to help with his clan.
Appearance:
Canyonmist is a normal sized tom with a light brown pelt and darked blackish brown tabby stripes. Mixed into his light brown base fur is several other shades of brown, mostly a light mudish brown accenting part of his face, chest fur and legs. He also has a good deal of white on him, as his belly, paws chin, and outline of his pale green eyes are all white.
Canyonmist's black and brown tail is fairly long, and he had long, thin whiskers. His fur is short and sleek, making him a good swimmer as he has less fur to drag him down with. He is also fairly powerful, friece has served him well in developing strong muscles underneath his short fur.
History:Canyonmist was born in RiverClan to a she-cat named Sparrowtalon, and was the only kit in his mother's first and last litter. Canyonmist had always wanted a brother or sister, and being in the Nursery board him constantly but relief came in the form of Reedkit, an old kit who was also and only kit her mother had. Canyonkit and Reedkit quickly became friends, and despite the near three moon age difference, they spent most of their free time together.
When Reedkit reached six moons and became Reedpaw, Canyonkit was left all alone in the Nursery again, and while Reedpaw did visit him, it just wasn't the same. Anxiously, Canyonkit waited for when he could become an apprentice too.
Six moons finally came, and Canyonkit was dubbed Canyonpaw and at last became a warrior apprentice. Despite the excitement that all kits have of becoming an apprentice, Canyonpaw was also equally executed about spending more time with Reedpaw, who he had considered to be his best friend. Reedpaw however didn't seem to think of Canyonpaw the same as in the three moons she had been out of the Nursery she had made friendships with the other apprentices, and she was especially close to a brother and sister pair named Foxpaw and Gingerpaw.
Foxpaw and Gingerpaw were the oldest of the apprentices at the time, and Canyonpaw secretly couldn't wait until they became warriors, hoping that then Reedpaw could spend more time with him. After a few moons, Canyonpaw got his wish and the two earned the name Foxclaw and Gingerstorm. After her friends became warriors Reedpaw did spend more time with Canyonpaw, though she did still hang out with Foxclaw and Gingerstorm whenever she could.
It was around that time that Canyonpaw realized that he had feelings for his denmate, and he quickly set to work trying to hide them. After all he couldn't love Reedpaw, he's known her forever!
But he couldn't, and he watched her come closer to becoming a warrior and debating if he should tell her how he felt. After a few more moons with trying to work things out in his head Reedpaw announced that she was becoming a warrior and that her ceremony would be the day after tomorrow. Canyonpaw was excited, of course he was, becoming a warrior was a big thing, but he also felt worried that Reedpaw would drift away from him and back with Gingerstorm and Foxclaw. He told himself that it would all be fine, and even promised himself that shortly after she became a warrior he would tell her how he felt.
He never got the chance to.
The night that she was to become a warrior, a patrol was sent to drive out a fox pair that had been found on the territory. Reedpaw and Foxclaw were among those on the patrol, and both died on that night. The only good being that the fox pair was driven out. Canyonpaw hadn't been part of the battle, and from what he heard the foxes ambushed the patrol and Reedpaw and Foxclaw were their targets. As soon as he heard he raced to where the battle had been and crouched besides the she-cat he loved. He knew without saying anything that she was going to die. The RiverClan leader came, and knowing that Reedpaw wasn't going to make it, performed the special warrior ceremony for dying apprentices who were ready to become warriors, giving her the name Reedtalon. Canyonpaw only just congratulated her before she died, never knowing his true feelings for her.
Canyonpaw was crushed, of course, but he was determined not to let his sadness get to him. He took to doing as much as he could so as to distract his mind from thinking of Reedtalon. And, before he knew it he became a warrior, earing the name Canyonmist.
From that point in his life to where he is now is rather dull. He set forth a grieving process and after several seasons he accepted that Reedtalon was gone, forever. Gingerstorm and Sparrowtalon also passed on from whitecough, though Canyonmist wasn't absolutely devastated as he was when Reedtalon died. He is now focused on being the best warrior he can be and serving his clan. His habit that he developed after Reedtalon died, to do as much as he can to help the clan, is still around long after her death.
RP Sample:Canyonmist left the RiverClan camp, meowing a small good-bye to the warrior on guard. He wanted to do some thinking outside of the busy camp, and the only escape he could think was to hunt by the lake. No one would follow him he knew for the simple fact that he often hunted alone. Even as an apprentice he felt stressed when he was hunting in a patrol, stress that he might not catch enough when compared to others, and he was never one to do well under stress. He did so much to avoid stressing himself out, and hunting alone and giving himself some quiet time to think was a good stress free time.
The tabby warrior flexed his claws in anticipation once he was outside of camp before heading in the direction of where he planned to hunt. The RiverClan warrior decided to do mostly land-prey hunting because of a momentary thought that crossed his mind.
Reedpaw loved mice...
Reedpaw, the pretty she-apprentice that Canyonmist had loved as an apprentice. Reedpaw, the cat that he had planned to tell how he really felt about her. Reedpaw, dead from a badger attack just before her warrior ceremony. Reedpaw, the she-cat that is now and forever out of his reach.
Oh, Canyonmist believed in StarClan and knew that Reedpaw would be there when he died. That she was watching them all now from her spot in StarClan, she might even know how he felt about her, and she could feel the same for all he knows. But even if that was true they could never have the relationship that Canyonmist had hoped for so desperately back in his youth, and maybe even hoped for now. She will never be anything more than a desire, a dream that never happened. Ha she lived, he couldn't help but wonder if things would have been different, if things would have went as he had hoped.
Stop thinking that! Canyonmist scolded himself as he picked up the scent of a water vole. He dropped down in a hunter's crouch and stalked the thing. Reedpaw is gone, and you have to move on. For real this time.
The brown tabby leaped at the small creature, landing on top of it and killing it with a quick bit to it's neck. Scrapping dirt over it he thought some more. I do need to get on with my life. Canyonmist thought. Mopping around everyday and regretting things isn't good for me. I need to finally get on with my life. For real.
Canyonmist turned then, away from the bushes and the trees and started to walk towards the water. He couldn't hunt land prey anymore, at least not if he could help it. Before he reached the shore of the lack, he picked up the scent of mouse, but he ignored it.
The mouse that Reedpaw would have loved.
