It was two weeks after the day she turned eighteen
All dressed in white, going to the church that night
She had his box of letters in the passenger seat
A sixpence in her shoe, something borrowed, something blue
And when the church doors opened up wide
She put her veil down, trying to hide the tears
Oh she just couldn't believe it
She heard the trumpets from the military band
And the flowers fell out of her hands
All dressed in white, going to the church that night
She had his box of letters in the passenger seat
A sixpence in her shoe, something borrowed, something blue
And when the church doors opened up wide
She put her veil down, trying to hide the tears
Oh she just couldn't believe it
She heard the trumpets from the military band
And the flowers fell out of her hands
Canyonmist had woken from nightmares of the night Reedtalon was killed. Of the blood that he has seen pouring out of the she-cat that he loved. Of just how bad his beloved had looked. She had been so weak, so out of it that she barley responded to receiving her warrior name, if she even heard it. Even many seasons afterwords, the horrible site and the horrible stench of blood was just as clear to him as it had been that day as an apprentice. He had woken afraid, and scared to return to sleep and experience the night. To re-experience everything that he had been trying so hard to forget. Making an unconsciouses decision, the tabby warrior rose from his nest and padded out of the Warrior's Den and towards the camp's entrance. He needed a way to distract his mind from all of this, something else to focus on. He was going to hunt.
Meowing a quick hello to the warrior on guard duty, he pushed his way out of camp and started to head to the Marshlands. Along the way he caught scent of a mouse, though he ignored it, remembering the promise he had mad to himself just a few days ago. He couldn't allow himself to slip back into his depression. He just couldn't. Not possibly, and even if the Clan really needed the prey, he knew that by going after that mouse, or any, would just cause him to slip back into the past, and he wouldn't allow that to happen. His mind wandered to Reedtalon though, no matter how hard he tried she was always on his mind, and he reassured himself that this was okay. You're allowed to think about someone who died.
Baby why'd you leave me
Why'd you have to go
I was counting on forever, now I'll never know
I can't even breathe
It's like I'm looking from a distance
Standing in the background
Everybody's saying, he's not coming home now
This can't be happening to me
This is just a dream
The preacher man said let us bow our heads and pray
Lord please lift his soul and heal this hurt
Then the congregation all stood up
And sang the saddest song that she ever heard
Then they handed her a folded up flag
And she held on to all she had left of him
Oh and what could have been
And then the guards rang one last shot
And it felt like a bullet in her heart
Why'd you have to go
I was counting on forever, now I'll never know
I can't even breathe
It's like I'm looking from a distance
Standing in the background
Everybody's saying, he's not coming home now
This can't be happening to me
This is just a dream
The preacher man said let us bow our heads and pray
Lord please lift his soul and heal this hurt
Then the congregation all stood up
And sang the saddest song that she ever heard

And she held on to all she had left of him
Oh and what could have been

Reedtalon has been an amazing she-cat, and that just wasn't his crush on her talking. She had always been a sweetheart, both to him and to other cats. She was a good apprentice and always liked to learn, though she did get into her fair share of trouble. Even if she didn't play with the then Canyonkit as much as she has when she was an apprentice, she did stop by very now and then, and often would lead them into adventures with Foxpaw and Gingerpaw that would get them all into trouble. He loved every minute of it, because he was with Reedtalon. When he became an apprentice, he had looked to her in admiration and had aimed to be as good as she was. He didn't like training or caring for the elders, but Reedpaw did, or if she didn't she had stopped calming long ago, and he molded himself to like them too. He wanted to be just like her. He had thought of her to be so perfect that she was invincible, and when he heard that she was injured he had to run and see for himself, despite his mentor's orders not to.
Canyonmist's tabby tail twitched at the thought of what he saw, remembering that this was exactly the reason he left the camp to hunt, and he couldn't allow himself to dwell on this. Determined not to allow his mind to slip into those horrible memories, he quickened his pace until he was at the river side where he was ready to hunt for fish.
Preparing himself, the tabby warrior posited himself so that he wasn't casting a shadow in the water. A thin form swam lazily in his direction, and without hesitation, the RiverClan warrior slashed his paw into the water, claws unsheathed, and scooped the fish out of the water. Canyonmist swatted the fish with his paw, causing it to fall onto the bank, flapping and gapping for air, and with a quick bite, he killed the creature.
With a satisfied purr, Canyonmist thought back to one of his favorite memories with Reedtalon. He had just become an apprentice, and he was having trouble fishing. His mentor had tired to teach him earlier in the day how to catch a fish, but he failed. Furious, his mentor had left and Canyonmist had stayed, determined to catch a fish. Reedtalon was out with Foxpaw and Gingerpaw, prepared to get into some trouble when she saw him struggling and came over to help, leaving her two friends behind.
The whole rest of the day Reedtalon helped him until finally he caught his first fish and carried it proudly back home. His mentor and the other apprentices didn't believe that Canyonmist really had caught the fish on his own, they thought that Reedtalon had caught it for him, though of coarse she swore otherwise. Those were good memories.
Canyonmist nosed his fish a little farther away from the water, and scarped some dirt over it, though there was little reason to do so, and looked around him. His pale green eyes scanned to see if any of his clanmates were out and about.

(I ended this horribly. ^^ Anyway, any RiverClan cats out and about?)
