Hawkpaw clawed at the cage. It wouldn't unlatch. She bit it. She got a toothache. Growling, she leaped at it. It didn't budge.
At sundown, she bumped it with her head. It finally unlatched.She stormed out. Where should she go? It didn't feel right to go home. She needed to go where Silverpaw was. That was home. She could still smell the tracks of the monster. She ran as fast as her paws could carry her.
At moonhigh, exhausted and eight miles behind the monster, she collapsed. Her life as Hawkstar, the one of stamina, was no longer there.
The next morning, she awakened before sunhigh.
She got a drink from a puddle and surged forward, still on a road.
At sundown, she hadn't tired yet, amazingly. She stopped at a sign that said, "Homeless Shelter." She couldn't read it but she could smell cats. She padded in, sniffing warily. She stopped. "Silverpaw!"

Flamefur, who had already escaped, stood by Midnightstar's side nearby. He was panting heavily and laden with sweat.
Silverpaw scented Hawkpaw. "Hawkpaw! We need to get home!" he licked her ear.
The cats walked along the thunderpath's side for a few minutes. Silverpaw didn't notice the monsters come besides sound and never knew how far out he was.
Then it came... he couldn't hear it because of all the Twoleg sounds and he happened to wander too far on to the road....

Midnightstar stuck tight to Flamefur's side on the walk, not daring to move too far away, but suddenly, a screech caught her attention and her head swung to the side as she glanced at the road in horror.

"Silverpaw!" Flamefur yowled.
It was too late.
Silverpaw was flung to the side of the path and landed in a crumpled heap. "Help!" he murmured before passing out.

Midnightstar gasped, her eys wide as she stopped stock still in her tracks. She didn't even know who the cat was, merely only that he was from RiverClan. The other apprentice she didn't know either, but she had been buisyer sticking to Flamefur's side than to care whom they were.
"Hurry!We need to get him off the ThunderPath!" She called.

Hours later, Silverpaw opened his eyes and struggled to rise to his paws. He tried to put pressure on his right back paw, but yowled at the pain. He looked at it and saw that half of it was on a very awkward angle. "Hawkpaw!" he groaned. He wanted her to be there. Where was she?

Hawkpaw fainted, one mile away. She cpuld go back. But where was back? She was so tired she could faint.

Hawkpaw woke up. she could smell Silverpaw far off. She began to run blindly. Suddenly he came into view. "Silverpaw! I'm so sorry I left you! I was so scared and nervous and tired, and I--" she looked longingly into his blind eyes. "And I-I-I-I-I, um...." She paused. "I, um." She licked his ear. "I love you."

Silverpaw hesitated before admitting. "Hawkpaw, I do too. Come on, let's get back to RiverClan." he meowed.
