Under the dark black sky, in the center of the ThunderClan camp, Russetpaw sat and stared up at the bright stars that represented the cats that had died. Will I be one of them before my warrior ceremony, she thought.
The ginger she-cat's thoughts drifted back to Dandypaw and she felt a salty tear slide down her cheek. She could never be his mate.
Russetpaw found herself crying and hoped she could stay along, but half hoped that someone would come comfort her. No one trusted her ever since she attacked Redpaw, but the red tabby tom seemed to forgive her.
Redpaw padded up to her, a scar on his shoulder from her gruesome assault.
"What's wrong, Russetpaw?" he meowed, licking her ear. Russetpaw looked at him sadly.
"I can't forget about Dandypaw. He's Fizzlepaw's mate now. He doesn't care about me." she sobbed.
Redpaw entwined his tail with hers. "Everything will be okay. He hasn't chosen anyone as his mate, and he shouldn't until he's a warrior."
The russet colored she-cat forced a smile. "Thanks for coming to comfort me Redpaw." she meowed.
The red tabby tom smiled. "I did my best. You should come get some sleep. For all you know, your assessment could be tomorrow!"
"Yeah right!" Russetpaw laughed.
"Maybe!" Redpaw raised one eye and looked at her.
The ginger she-cat shook her head. "I'll join you in a second. I just want to take a bit of a break."
Redpaw nodded. "Well, get some sleep. I'll see you later." the red tabby padded to the apprentice's den and Russetpaw watched him curl up in his nest and fall fast asleep.
She looked back at the stars. One glowed brighter than ever right over her head and she thought she saw a glimpse of a beautiful red she-cat known as Redstar look down at her from it.
Russetpaw closed her eyes and lifted her paws up so she sat on only her back paws, letting the breeze toss her around slowly in the night.
