Russetpaw ignored him. "Dandypaw! Try to remember! You can be Fizzlepaw's mate if you want... I just want my best friend back!" she sobbed.

Dandypaw squinted not recognizing the name. "I don't remember Russetpaw or what ever your name is." He felt another pair of eyes wathing him and his fur started to bristle. "Who's there? Show yourself!" he added as nothing came into veiw.

Russetpaw backed away with shock. She thought about leaping forward and torturing him in to it, but changed her mind as she still had feelings for him. She sobbed again.

"D-don't cry!" Dandypaw stuttered not sure if he should run away. He could still feel the other set of eyes watching him so he looked around cautiously then jumped up onto a branch and looked from higher up. "Who's there?" he yowled wanting to know.

Dandypaw squrimed beneath her gaze then he fell. A memory flashed through his mind as if it happened just there and now. He saw himself as a kit looking happily at Midnightstar as he was becoming an apprentice then it stopped when he landed with a thud. "Ooph," he grunted staggering to his paws, shuddering.

Russetpaw rushed over to him and licked his ear. "Dandypaw, are you alright?" she meowed. The russet colored she-cat more than hoped that her best friend would get his memory back. "I'm sorry!" she suddenly started wailing. "It's my fault you lost your memory! You were trying to drown yourself to get away from me and Fizzlepaw. We both wanted you as our mates when we became warriors and it was all my fault! When you went to say yes to Fizzlepaw I went to that nightshade patch! Please forgive me, Dandypaw!" she sobbed hard and felt her paws give away under her. "Dandypaw, it's my fault. Kill me here and now if you would like, just forgive me!"

Dandypaw looked at her confused then meowed boldly," No. I will not kill you." He turned back to start back to his tree then turned. "When I get my memory I'll come back home. But," he paused," for now I must be alone for the sake of me." He felt the other set of eyes watching him still and he turned and fled then yowled," Don't cry!"

Russetpaw got to her paws heavily. She was no longer crying but wore a proud expression on her face. She silently promised that she would do everything she could to make sure Dandypaw was happy, even if it meant being Fizzlepaw's mate. She sobbed once more at the thought of the pretty, slim she-cat who he loved. "Dandypaw. Remember this and you will understand when your memory is well: You can be Fizzlepaw's mate if you want. I would just like you to be happy. If you want to be my mate because you feel I am right, then so be it, but do not pick me only because I would be harmed if you didn't." she meowed boldly, yowling loud enough for her best friend to hear.

Dandypaw slid to a stop so then he could hear then smiled and shook his head. He started to run again but stopped. There was a masive tom standing in front of him but he was transparent. His eyes widened and he let out a terrified yowl that cut off shortly after he started it.

Russetpaw saw Dandypaw slide to a stop and yowl. "Dandypaw? Are you okay?" she yowled, running after him.

Dandypaw broke his gaze from the dreadful tom and looked over at Russetpaw before colapsing. He remembered stories of an evil cat that looked exactly like the tom he had just seen. "Tigerstar," he murmured to himself, before going unconsious on the cool ground.

Russetpaw looked strangely at him. Dandypaw collapsed randomly and the russet colored she-kit scented a strange scent on the breeze. It reminded her of a nursery tale of an evil cat who had killed for no reason. "Tigerstar!" she yowled, lunging towards her best friend. She stood over him hissing at the air, wondering where the ghostly shape prowled. Occasionally she felt thorny claws ripping at her pelt and she felt blood drip down a bite wound on her neck, but did not give up position. She would not let Dandypaw die!
